Meet Petie Huffman
I started my Mary Kay business in August 1978. We had recently moved to Chicago from Ohio and I quickly found out that the cost of living was much higher than our little hometown of Crestline, Ohio.
I was a music teacher and decided that I was going to have to go back to teaching. But when I applied, I found out that I would have to go back to school first. We had 2 children so I started taking care of a couple of other children while I looked for something else. It was then that someone approached me about "teaching skin care for Mary Kay", instead of teaching music to students. I thought that I would try it for 2 years, until my children would be a little older.
I loved being a consultant at my very first class. I lived in an apartment complex and I ran all the way home. It was such a shock for all my friends because before Mary Kay I was a tom boy that didn't wear makeup. But I lived this business and shared the opportunity with my customers and became a director in November of 1979.
We then had 2 more babies and they both came home from the hospital in a Pink Cadillac. I love how flexible you can be with your business, because my husband traveled 42 weeks out of the year and I worked my consultantship part time and my directorship full time, but out of our home while the children were still at home.
You can make your Mary Kay career anything that you want it to be...and remember "the sky is the limit!"
